Kit Pop - Pill Bits and Biters
Submitted by Todd Lockley 05/01/2010

Perth’s very own master of the mash up delivers the house party goods on long player Pill Bits And Biters. It’s the perfect soundtrack to a summer day on the beach or chill out session sipping cold bevvies with a few friends. There’s plenty here with a mix up of hip hop, gangsta rap and even a little Australian indie for good measure.

This tight little mix tape kicks off with “Tell Me When”, the perfect intro to what’s to come, a scratchy, bouncy fiesta of sounds. Kid Sisters Control produces the lyrics that kick on through “Damn Girl”. The hip hop vibes bounce along swimmingly with scratches and fresh beats adding somewhat of a disco element to the original tracks.

“Fly” is definitely a highlight here. Taking the original mediocre track “Gotta Stay Fly” by Three Six Mafia, crushing it together with some Justice and making it a healthy party anthem. “Cheifs Ready” also takes a fresh look to a Lil Scrappy track and takes it to a whole new jazzy level, it just works.

Kit Pop's tune selections are pretty sweet. Staying away from the more commercial, top ten side of hip hop and introducing it to the elements of dance music. It’s like he's recording whilst playing at a house party, that’s what the vibe feels like from start to finish. Listening to “I’m A Hustler” or “Shakin Fever” - you could imagine a clip for it involving an old skooler bustin out some mad breakin skills and there’s a sort of 80's vibe with synths, which is always a win.

“AIH” goes off on another tangent, Architecture In Helsinkis classic “Heart It Races” gets raced up to a breakin beat and makes it a lot more fun. The calypso beat, at this pace will have you up bouncing round the room. Comedian Katt Williams gets a nod with track “Everyday I’m Hustlin” while Twista's Overnight Celebrity rounds out the party with “Pro Licker”.

All in all this is an all out party album. Kit pop has mastered the art of scratching and makes a mash out of conflicting genres. Definitely worth
a spin next time you have a backyard bounce or cruising the beaches this summer.
