Jesse Rose - What Do You Do If You Don't
Submitted by Liz Sheehan 29/05/2009

Jesse Rose has been DJ'ing and producing for fourteen years, earning a reputation as a solid performer in the arena of 4/4 not only in his homeland, the UK but also all over Europe. It's obvious when listening to his album, What do you Do if You Don't, that he was raised on a diet of Motown soul, jazz and 80's funk. The tongue twister titled album is Rose's second solo production following on from More Than One. Rose has collaborated with the mighty Hot Chip on this album and with a name like that backing you, the only road ahead is... SUCCESS!

The first track is a collaboration with Hot Chip titled "Forget My Name". It's a bit of a vanity song.. like what Craig David is famous for, but that is soon forgotten when the infectious beat gets you. Rose has included a few funky lounge type tracks such as, "Well Now", which reminded me of watching a Quentin Tarantino film like "Pulp Fiction". He cleverly keeps that rolling techy beat in the track.... you know the one! The one that gets you up and dancing EVERY time. My two favourite tracks, "Night at the Dogs" and "Never Ending" are a bit more soothing but really showcase Rose's talent to bring such a broad range of tracks into one album.

Other tracks worth mentioning are "Heavy Still", which is combination of melodic vocals and electro sounds as well as "Touch my Horn" with its tuba and trombone sounds combined with a tech beat.

This album is so versatile that you could get away with playing this CD at a chilled gathering/bqq or to pep things up as you get ready to hit the Ambar dance floor!
