Ministry of Sound - Rave Anthems mixed by Sasha Vatoff
Submitted by Todd Lockley 21/05/2009
Do you remember dusty warehouses, glow sticks, the stench of medic spray, some sweaty bloke with no top on with a whistle in his gob, the uplifting vocals and piano riffs that made you dance till you dropped, and then dance some more?. If you do then you'll know nearly every track on this CD, and that to me, is a really good thing.
Ministry Of Sound, Rave Anthems mixed by Sasha Vatoff takes you on a three disc journey through some of the greatest rave anthems ever made. Disc one is all about 1990 - 1992 Belgian and Italian House, disc two brings the 1992 - 1994 German And UK Rave to the table and disc three rounds out with 1994 - 1996 German And Italian House.
Bass Head's classic "Is There Anybody Out There?" kicks off proceedings on disc one, and from there the anthems keep on keeping on, you may not be a fan of Moby but "Go" is awesome whether you're reaching for the lazers or bopping in your bedroom. There are some standards on here to, the most excellent "Dont You Want Me" by Felix, which still gets a spin in most clubs now days, remixed, re-chopped or the original - all good! Where would 90's rave be without Cappella, who drop in a big time tune "Take me Away".
Eject disc one and Bam, disc two delivers. Anthems such as Dream Frequency "Feel So Real" and "Take Me", Gordon Edge "Compnded" or Force Motion "Panic". You know the one... "Pow pow, Feel the panic, got to have it". Even The Prodgiy get a mention on this one, "Everybody In The Place (Fairground Mix)" reminds us all where they came from, and what was, in this reveiwers opinion, their glory days. If you havent got your hands in the air by the time Genlog "Mockmoon" closes out disc two then maybe you should attend the easy listening section.
Enter disc three! This CD on its own is complete gold. Remember that old 90's rave tape you had with all them awesome songs on it that you taped off your mate (mine was Paul Holden Fantazia), well, they're all here, minus the crackly audio and over zealous MC. The tracklisting is fantastic, Fits Of Glom "Somebody To Love", "Injected With A Poison" by Paga Khan and "Take Me Up" by Aussie Boys Southend all get a spin. One of the greatest dance tracks ever, Love 4 Sale, "Do You Feel So Right" is a major highlight of disc three. Turn off the lights and let it take you to way back when.
To sum it all up, this would be a fitting addition to your collection if you're a seasoned old skoolian or if you're a new skool scenester who needs an education on how good it was back then. The music makes you feel good, it makes you want to dance, and on this complilation, Ministry of Sound and Sasha Vatoff deliver big time. 4/5, only cos Pan Position "Elephant Paw" didnt get a spin. Stand out tracks "Panic" Force Mass Motion, "Go" Moby and of course, "Do You Feel So Right" by Love 4 Sale.
