Harmonic 313 – When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence
Submitted by David Minutillo 15/04/2009

cdMark Pritchard has had several revered guises over the past two decades and his latest, Harmonic 313 (named aptly after the Detroit city area code), is no exception. “When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence” is his latest offering and without doubt will put his all conquering talent on the map. Not one to rest on his laurels or ride his past, Mark has strung together a beautifully deep symphony of futuristic sounds and beats with the aim of creating something different.

“I am always inspired by hearing new sounds; it has always been what keeps me going. I want to hear something different and futuristic. That’s what music is about for me.”

And futuristic this album is. Tracks like “Koln”, “Galag-A” and “Flaash” should be loaded on to the Sound System of the upcoming Virgin Galactic space flights for that final touch. And this is where most of the vocal interludes sound like they have been sampled from too. If this is what the future is to sound like we should all have nothing but a dreamy lust for it.

“This album has a direct link to Detroit techno and UK bassline music from the last 20 years or more. It still has a hip hop flavour but has a more 80’s Electronic palette with the sounds.”

As Mark also points out most of the album is built on a deliberate Hip Hop undertone. The only exception to this subtly is “Battlestar” where the bull escapes the pen and the listener is suddenly locking horns with a rampaging, all out Hip Hop number.

If you are after more Pritchard genius “Fabric 26 - Global Communication” (collaboration with Tom Middleton) is worth a spin. Or check out www.Harmonic313.com to score a free unreleased MP3 or simply to admire how a website should look. If you still can’t find anything that makes your hairs stand on end then maybe music isn’t your thing.
