The Qemists - Join The Q
Submitted by Badr Fikree 30/03/2009
The Qemists first LP arrives in the first quarter of 2009 with an avid Ninja Tune and electronica community keen to see what a blend of hip hop, Funk, Rock, Breaks and Drum N Bass in a talented trio is going to sound like.
From humble origins of a three-piece rock band to producing remixes for artists such as Dr. Octagon, Roots Manuva and Coldcut to working with live drum n bass/ hip hop acts, there’s always been a question floating around with me (and a few other people I’m sure) wondering “when the fuck are they going to release their own album?”
Remember that remix of “Everything is Under Control”? You know the one, you heard it a few times on RTRFM and lost your fucking mind every time it came on. Then some random DJ played it at Trafik one night and then you found it as a white label in DJ Factory while Kenny L was telling you about his quality MC’ing over Trance. No? Well that was my experience. I lost it in a friends crate a few weeks later, but managed to get my hands on an mp3 copy of it.
And now I have my hands on an album by those guys!
“Joining the Q” has been a long awaited Ninja Tune exclusive release that was nicely placed in the first quarter of 09. The Qemists have taken their time on this LP, and it shows with the diverse sound and guest artist list that reads longer then Chingy’s entourage at the “BET Awards”.
Guest vocalists include Mike Patton of the ever famous Faith No More, Bjork (yes that bird who beat up a man in Bangkok airport), Jenna G and Kool Keith all feature on this album.
That, blended with rock, reggae, hip hop and brum n bass have made this an album that everyone can find something in and relate to. Yes, everyone.
Personal favourite tracks have to be “Dem Na Like Me”, “When Ur Lonely” and “S.W.A.G”. It’s a shame that I have to pick these tracks, but I encourage a full album listening before you go on what I have to say.
These guys have always been a DJ/ Producers favourite act to watch and listen, and you now have the opportunity to get your hands on some great music and some rotation fodder for your tracklist/vinyl collection.
Give it a listen, you will dance harder, run faster and sleep better. Please Note: Said affects may vary from person to person.
