16 Bit Lolitas - Warung Beach Club #1
Submitted by James Broadhurst 8/12/2008

The 16 Bit Lolitas have been on the periphery of both the underground and commercial scenes since Peter Krierk and Ariaan Ollieroock landed their first release on Extrema Records in 2003.

Since their debut release 16 Bit Lolitas have quickly risen through the ranks of the industry with their sophisticated, versatile and down right addictive brand of house music.

Their latest project has catapulted the Warung Beach Club, one of Brazils most infamous clubs, into the international arena with a double CD package showcasing their skills behind the decks and in the studio.

The first CD is a journey deep into the 16 Bit Lolitas’ musical psyche and combines the very best remixes and original productions from producers like Lewie Day, Spirit Catcher and Sharem Jey.

Each and every one of the tracks on the first CD is there for a reason and the atmospheres, hooks, basslines and percussive elements wax and wane in sync to capture the moods and vibes of a 16 Bit Lolitas live DJing set.

The second disc is a mixed version of completely original and previously unreleased 16 Bit Lolita tracks and if you are down with their deep, emotive and impressively catchy house sounds this album will be staying in your CD deck for days on end.

For once it is nice to hear a compilation were the music does the talking and instead of trying to smash over 30 tracks onto an hour long CD the music is aloud to speak for itself.

Both CDs build up in a very progressive way and this evolution keeps the listener tuned in to the very last beat and while fans of the more upfront underground genres might not find the same enjoyment on this album as house fans undoubtedly will, but even so this album is very much worth the purchase price.

Rating: 3.5/5
