Various - Chillout Sessions XI
Submitted by Liz Sheehan 19/11/2008
We all know that time of the weekend, when you've been out at banging clubs all night and all you want to do is to melt into a couch and chillax.
Your ears are screaming for soothing music, literally.
Well look no further than Ministry of Sound's latest installment of Chillout Sessions, Chillout Sessions XI, to bring you into the state of calm you are craving.
Let's just hope you're relaxed before you have to get to disc two.
I usually find that with Ministry of Sound two disc compilations, one disk is a lot better than the other.
It's almost like they put all their effort into one disk while the other one is generally a boulebase of crap.
This compilation is no different, but hey at least they are consistent!
Disc one has a great mix of some popular songs such as 'Neopolitan Dreams' by Lisa Mitchell, 'If I know You' by the Presets, 'Walking on a Dream' by Empire of the Sun and 'Electric Feel' by MGMT.
'Electric Feel' is one song that has defied statistics by still being very listenable even after the trashing it has received on commerical radio.
There is also a very soothing version of 'Teardrop' by Jose Gonzalez.
I didn't even know it was possible to make this song more soothing than the original by Massive Attack, but this guy has done it and done it well.
Since reviewing Sasha's Invol2ver album I have discovered a liking for Ladytron and was glad to see 'Ghosts' included on this album.
It is definitely one of those songs that sticks in your head.
Disc two took me back to that moment in the club when the lights come on and everyone recoils in horror and all I wanted to do was turn it off and hide.
The tempo is a bit above what I would consider 'chillout' and seems vastly different to the enjoyable listen of Disc one.
This disc is definitely alot more instrumental than the first.
The only honourable mention on this disk is Cut Copy's remix of 'Move' by CSS, but if I was them I would be telling everyone about Cut Copy's track on Disk one and pretending Disc two never happened.
Even though Disc two wasn't the best, I still think this CD is worth owning just for Disc one.
I found myself saying 'I love this song' more than once whilst listening to it.
Chillout sessions XI is also best served at a relaxing sunday afternoon BBQ with mates.
It's not just for 6am on a Sunday.
