Rico Tubbs - Knuckle Sandwich
Submitted by James&;nbsp;Broadhurst 29/07/2008

If you haven’t already heard tracks from Rico Tubbs’ Knuckle Sandwich doing damage at a dancefloor near you don’t despair, you will soon.

Rico Tubbs is an award winning breakbeat producer and DJ from Finalnd who has released everything from hip hop to drum and bass under many guises for over a decade on labels including Aquasky’s Passenger Recordings and Tony Colman’s Hospital Records.

Tubbs is known throughout his homeland for his mash up DJ sets incorporating everything from jacking house grooves thru slamming drum and bass into his high-energy performances as well as being part of Bomfunk MCs’ live show.

Tubbs’ latest musical creation is possibly his most courageous to date as Knuckle Sandwich is as impossible to pigeon hole as it is to resist.

With the massive ‘Gangsters,’ a throwback to the 90s rave era with an ultra modern twist, getting played by both Madox and Rennie Pilgrem at this year's instalment of Major Break on top of support from Tayo, Stanton Warriors and Krafty Kuts you can be certain Rico Tubbs is definitely doing something right.

This is by no stretch of the imagination the only decent track on the album, the oh-so-addictive ‘Born 2 Bounce’ and the ever tasty ‘Phenomenal’ ensure Tubbs has crafted an impressive and versatile collection of party styled beats.

With an impressive collection of classic hip hop, rave and breakbeat samples accompanied by plenty of booty shaking basslines Knuckle Sandwich is definitely one of the most different albums you will hear this year.

It may not float everyone’s boat, but if you like to dance then this album is definitely for you.

Perhaps the albums only downfall is it’s lack of diversity, even though most of the tracks are downright addictive it would have been nice to hear a couple of tunes not aimed at the dancefloor.

In saying this you have to appreciate Knuckle Sandwich for what it is, an awesome collection of party tunes capable of eating dancefloors for breakfast.
