Sander Kleinenberg - This is
Submitted by Tim Fenner 2/9/2007

So who is Sander Kleinenberg? As the title of this CD boasts, if there is a comprehensive answer to be found to the question, it is surely within the casing of this exciting new compilation.

The Dutch DJ and producer, best known for his 2000 house classic ‘My Lexicon,’ and for his delightfully low-key remix of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Rock You Body,’ is cutting a progressive path across the world with yet another compilation mix to coincide with his internationally famous ‘This Is’ club nights.

The ‘This Is’ nights have become hugely popular over the past year, and have included sets at clubs such as Pacha in Ibiza, Ministry of Sound London, Panama in Amsterdam, Redlight in Paris and Crobar in New York.

Sander has also used these nights to showcase his video (DVJ) mixing skills. He was quick to embrace DVJ video technology back in 2003 along with his friend, Mark Pistoire, and it has since become a signature part of his legendary routine.

But Sander’s sets have much more complexity and depth than just powerful visuals. The man knows how to work a dance-floor. A DJ since the late 80s, having toured and established residencies the world over, his musical knowledge and track selection combined with great crowd interaction have built him a solid reputation. He cites musical versatility as what “makes a DJ strong. It makes it easier for them to adjust to different rooms, different countries, different atmospheres in general.” And this compilation certainly reflects the extent of his versatility.

This Is Sander Kleinenberg is a sundry blend of progressive, tech and funky house, with elements of electro and trance shining through. The mixing is what one would expect of a studio mix from this world-renowned progressive DJ and producer; nothing but superb.

For those not accustomed to the sounds of progressive house and Sander Kleinenberg, it will provide a bold and broad introduction. For those who know Sander and his music, this latest mix is unlikely to disappoint.

There is a wide array of original and remixed tracks from huge artists, including the likes of Disk Jokke, Tom Novy, Kraak & Smaak and Nic Fanciulli. The track ordering is diplomatic, and caters to a wide variety of tastes. He is a man that pulls no punches when it comes to his career, and the ambitious nature of this latest release ought to be highly commended.

Sander is presently continuing his international tour on the back of this compilation, and we can only expect that Australia will soon be added to the schedule.
