Balance 12 - mixed by Lee Burridge
Submitted by Tim Fenner 20/8/2007
With a DJ career spanning over twenty years, and a past touring schedule that is nothing short of astonishing, Lee Burridge is a man who needs little introduction.
From humble beginnings in Bournemouth UK, Lee’s skills and acid/ deep house repertoire have steadily and unashamedly evolved to the point where he is now frequently featured in DJ mags’ top 100 DJs worldwide, and he has a residency catalogue that includes an impressive array of cities and clubs around the globe, including New York, Ibiza, Beunos Aires, Sydney, Denver, Hong Kong, and not to mention his early work at the now legendary Thailand ‘full moon’ parties.
With four compilation mixes already under his belt, Lee was a more-than appropriate choice to take on the twelfth highly anticipated instalment in the exclusive Balance series. This Australian series, under EQ/ Stomp Recordings has made a name for itself providing inspired mixes from eminent DJs that span the finest and most cutting-edge in underground electronica.
Lee Burridge’s ‘Balance 012’ compilation is described as a ‘sublime collection of house rhythms, techno beats and subtle melodies, culminating in a deep, beautiful, dark, trippy and wobbly soundtrack’. The three-disc mix is host to a broad spectrum of tracks from some well-known artists.
The first disc introduces the listener to the more low-key, deep sounds that have been characteristic of Lee’s unique style selection. It features an exceptional Paul Daley mix of ‘Adios Ayer’, the 2001 release from the much-loved Jose Padilla. Disc two works the tempo up slightly, introducing some bubblier, funkier elements to the brew. It reaches a high intensity with a powerful dubby number from Argentinian DJ/ producer Jorge Savoretti. The third disc brings it all home with more deep, pulsating rhythms and energetic, ear-pleasing sounds mixed to perfection.
The ‘Balance 012’ compilation provides just what it promises; a plethora of fun, groovy, exhilarating and at times hypnotic beats that are accessible to almost anybody, not just the fans of minimal underground music. Lee’s exceptional taste in music and superb mixing skills are on proud display throughout. This unique blend of sounds undoubtedly delivers the complete ‘Lee Burridge experience’ in one neat package.
