Vintage Grooves - Old School Hip-Hop Vol. 1
Submitted by Matthew Perkins 31/7/2007

Normally you might review a CD by listening to it carefully several times, work out the sounds in each tune, the influences behind the artist, and gauge your personal opinion on it, making sure your initial thoughts are justified, or not.

But, this CD is a no-brainer.

In case the title hasn't given it away, this is a compilation packed full of hip hop treats. They date from the early '80s through to the early '90s and the two CDs make for an amazing trip into nostalgia for anyone that knows, and loves, the genre and, for any recent admirers of the rap sound, this can serve as both a history lesson and a joyous discovery of some of the musical highlights of a golden era.

The 24 tracks here include Grandmaster Flash - several times- The Sugarhill Gang, Run D.M.C., Boogie Down Productions, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, N.W.A., and House of Pain.

Quite simply, you can't go wrong. Pick a track, any track. They are all classics. They are all fantastic. And, this is a CD that will sit comfortably in the music collection of every single hip hop lover, no matter how big or small the love.

Rating: 9/10
