Fabric 35 - Ewan Pearson
Submitted by James Broadhurst 13/7/2007
As anyone who is reading this probably knows, Fabric is a nightclub.
It’s a pretty big deal, especially for the people who frequent the venue and enjoy the music that they play.
So this one time, Ewan Pearson went there, not to listen but to actually choose the music. I know! cool!
Apparently the movers and shakers who run Fabric thought this was pretty cool too because they asked Ewan if they could record what he played and then put it onto CD to retail to the public. Naturally he agreed and Fabric CD 35 was born.
There are lots of really nice songs on the mix. I quite like the tribute to Ally McBeal that starts as soon as you press ‘play.’Anyone who can successfully reference lame pseudo-comedic late '90s girly law drama is ok in my books.
Obviously I’m not saying I watched the show, quite the opposite. I went out of my way to avoid it. I think that is what makes it such a good song - the questionable subject matter.
Then there is a guy who calls himself Paris the Black Fu. He came to my hometown once and played some music, all set to the most awesome video of ladies shaking their asses.
That's all that happened the entire video presentation. Closeups of asses jiggling. Top gig. Seriously fun. Anyway - he has made some music since then and Ewan happened to combine it into his mix.
I very much doubt that any under-the-table money changed hands to enable this because the song that has been included is a good one.
Technically Samuel L Sessions made it but I reckon Paris would have done the most work. That guy has the work ethic of a Clydesdale. It is not the only attribute that he shares with a horse.
I am tempted to drop the name ‘Snax’ as I am sure that in doing so many people will rush out to listen to this mix, Konrad Black did a remix of his ‘Honeymoons’s over’ song and it cranks.
I don’t know that I will, however.
Instead I will include a tracklist at the end of this review. Maybe a short story about how good Snax was live when I saw him a few months ago' Nah – this review isn’t all about me. Don’t want to get too far off track.
Should I mention how good the Samim track is' Technically I just did, I suppose. Phew! That certainly saves some typing. Should I mention that I own the Laven and MSO song' Will that affect the objectiveness of the review?
Speaking of objectiveness, should I mention that I enjoyed this CD shortly after tapping a barrel of Becks' Probably not.
The best thing you, dear reader, could possibly do is listen and decide for yourself.
I am obviously in favour of it and believe that it is well worth investing the time and effort.
