Sandy Rivera : Renaissance - The Masters Series Part 8
Submitted by Mark Walker 21/9/2006
I was lucky enough to catch Sandy Rivera play Pacha in London a couple of years ago at one of the Defected nights and was instantly impressed. The funny looking dude with the afro mixes every tune to perfection and is all about being smooth. Up until listening to this double cd most of what I had heard from Sandy Rivera was more of a funky and soulful sound. This cd moves on from what I was expecting and it appears Sandy has been experimenting with a more progressive sound.
Both cds start off with an intro voice over which although some might think is a bit over the top, I actually think kind of suits.
First disc starts off on a cruisey funky vibe before building slowly moving towards to a more deep and even slightly dirty sound at times. Track nine "Red Eleven - I wanna" has to one of my favourite tracks and I can certainly picture this tearing some rooves off.
Disc two is straight up progressive house Sandy Rivera style. I have never been a huge fan of the more progressive style of house but this cd really does it for me. Sandy Rivera has mixed a very interesting collection of tunes chosen in a what seems a perfect order. It sounds so cliché to say "a set that goes somewhere" but this is very true with this mix. Whilst being a more progressive sound Sandy has used the right tunes in the right places to make this mix a very enjoyable listen. His key selection of tunes through both discs adds to the feel of this mix and creates some pleasant "ups and downs".
Both discs are full of so many good tracks you can’t go wrong. I really enjoyed this double cd and would certainly recommend it to any house music fan.
